Celebrating Anniversaries and Reunions

It's that time of the year in a school calendar when Semester 1 turns into Semester 2, and when the year which seemed to start slowly suddenly gains momentous speed. When it gets to year end, somehow everyone starts thinking of milestones and anniversaries.

An important milestone for the school takes place on 24 July, when the school commemorates Founder's Day once again as a single institution with students from Secondary 1 to Pre-University 2. It is our 187th Founder's Day, and marks the start of a new era for Raffles Institution. With more than 6000 students and 450 staff, it's getting slightly problematic to find a venue for a school function!!

Just the week before, on 17 July, the Raffles Students' Council will be commemorating its 30th anniversary with a dinner event. If you're an alumni councillor and haven't got your ticket yet, check out the details here. The event organisers hope to get an attendance of at least 400 people.

Alumni from the Chinese Orchestra CCA are also using this month of July to get together for an inaugural Raffles Alumni Chinese Orchestra concert, "Memories of Youth". To be held on 31 July at 8 pm at the Republic Polytechnic Cultural Centre, it promises to be an enjoyable night out for the alumni orchestra members themselves, as well as any other alumni with an appreciation for Chinese Orchestra music. Alumni from the Class of 1990 and Class of 2000 are possibly also looking back with nostalgia too as this is their 20th and 10th anniversary of graduating from the school with the all-important A-level cert.
